Open ActionBar

ActionBar requires macOS 14 or later. The default launcher shortcut is Option + Space. Open Settings → General to choose another supported shortcut if that combination is already used by another app. Settings also contains the optional “Open at login” switch.

The launcher on this website is a browser preview using sample apps and files. It cannot launch native Mac applications or search your own files. The installed app provides those features.

Files, folders, and editions

In Settings → Files & projects, choose Add Folder…, select a folder you want ActionBar to search, and use Refresh Index when needed. Confirm that the folder is available and that macOS has granted the requested access. Hidden files, symbolic links, dependency folders, and files outside indexing limits may not appear.

The Mac App Store edition is sandboxed and searches folders you explicitly add. The direct-download edition also supplements explicit file searches with Spotlight. Script execution, Alfred handoff, and browser-profile launching are direct-download features and are not included in the Mac App Store edition.

To stop indexing a folder, remove it from Files & projects. This does not delete the folder or its files. To reset usage-based ordering, use Reset Recent Use in Search ranking; remove favorites separately through Actions.

Clipboard history

History starts off. Enable it in Settings → Clipboard History, then copy new plain text. Existing clipboard text is not imported when you enable the feature. Images, file objects, oversized items, and recognized sensitive copies are excluded.

The history keeps up to 100 text items in memory, within its size limits. Quitting, disabling history, or choosing Clear Clipboard History discards those entries. This is expected behavior, not permanent storage. Clearing the history does not clear the macOS clipboard; copy harmless text if you also want to replace that clipboard value.

Sensitive-source filtering cannot catch every password or secret. Turn history off before copying sensitive text. Read how clipboard information is handled.

Weather is unavailable or shows the wrong place

Weather needs an internet connection. Try a specific city name, check your default city in Settings → Weather, and allow a minute before retrying if requests were rate limited. The service may be temporarily unavailable. Core local features can still work offline.

The entered city is sent to the ActionBar API and Open-Meteo; resolved coordinates are used to retrieve the forecast. The app does not use GPS for weather. Forecasts may be cached briefly. Read the complete weather data explanation.

Manage analytics and diagnostics

In Settings → Privacy, Share feature usage controls Firebase analytics and Send crash and error reports controls Sentry reports from your Mac. Both start off, work independently, and can be changed without disabling core features.

Reset Local Analytics Data resets local analytics information and its identifier. It does not delete reports already received by a provider. If sharing remains on, new data can be generated. Turning diagnostics off also removes its private local report cache. These settings do not disable operational diagnostics for the weather API.

For deletion of information held by us or our providers, use the contact instructions above. ActionBar has no cloud user account to close. See all privacy controls and your rights.

Remove ActionBar’s local data

First use the individual controls above if you only want to clear history or withdraw consent. To remove the app’s configuration entirely:

1. Turn off both sharing options in Privacy and turn off “Open at login” in General. Quit ActionBar.
  2. Back up any ActionBar workspaces, quicklinks, workflows, or script configuration you want to keep. Removing the folders below discards that configuration.
  3. In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder. For the direct-download edition, open ~/Library/Application Support/ActionBar/. For the sandboxed Mac App Store edition, its app data is under ~/Library/Containers/com.actionbar.macos/Data/Library/Application Support/ActionBar/. A location may not exist if you have not used that edition.
  4. Remove only ActionBar’s own data in the relevant location, then remove ActionBar from Applications if you also want to uninstall it. Do not remove your selected project folders or other apps’ data.

This does not remove files in your workspaces, the system clipboard, browser history, backups, or provider-held reports. macOS may keep additional app caches or container metadata. Manage backups and operating-system storage separately. If you reinstall without saved preferences, optional sharing and clipboard history return to their default-off state.

Downloads and App Store purchases

The home page’s download interface states the current public-release availability. Install only a verified release from the stated official distribution channel. The website’s sample film and launcher are product illustrations, not an installer.

If you obtained ActionBar through the Mac App Store, use the App Store for updates. For an Apple-billed purchase, use Apple’s refund instructions or your Apple purchase history to request transaction assistance. Applicable consumer rights remain unchanged.
